I was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and, after having spent the first part of my life there, I lived in England, France, Mexico and the United States. I have been drawing since I first could hold a pencil and creating art has been a compulsion ever since. Though I am self-taught, I have taken many painting courses over the years, mainly in order to learn the use of different media. I have studied pastel with Roz Hollander, PSA, for nine years. My favorite medium is colored pencils, but I also use watercolor, acrylic and pastel. I usually wind up mixing my media to achieve the results I want. My paintings are considered realistic, hence my preference for colored pencils with which the finest details can be rendered. I have...

Hello Constance, This painting is absolutely adorable! I love the less than excited look of the little boy, but the pony takes my heart! LF

You sure sound like an expert to me! I love horses, too, and like to paint them. Alas, I grew up in a big city where there was not much opportunity to ride them but I did get up on a horse occasionally during my vacations. It was always very thrilling and I can easily understand why you're so enamored of these beautiful animals.

Well, not an expert, but have been horse-crazy since I was old enough to recognize a pony and demand to ride! Since then, have acquired knowledge of breeds, and my husband and I have raised Percheron draft horses since about 1985.

What I know about horses is mostly as much as what I know about cars. I don't know brands, just colors. I'm sorry to be so ignorant; I suspect you must be an expert.

You are most welcome, Constance - great looking pony, BTW! Shetland or Haflinger? Doesn't look big enough to be a Haflinger, but has the coloring.

That IS a funny story. I'm sorry for the poor horse! In this case, neither my daughter nor the pony was particularly enthused about the ride. Still, she remained in the saddle until the very end. Thanks very much for your comment, Conni.

Just voted for this in the Girls Just Want to have Fun contest, and you brought back a memory that is hilarious! We had a young girl who was very "horse-hungry" visiting and we put her up on an elderly horse we knew was safe. The horse was not impressed and kept trying to circle back to us to make us end the torment, and the girl kept turning the horse away to the field. She finally huffed and said, "I'm just out here to enjoy a ride, I don't know why you can't!" My husband I about fell to the ground laughing.
